The Institute is fortunate to have a team of experienced Mentors and PCT Trainers each bringing life and professional of experiences supporting people to get better lives. The team’s diversity of experiences creates opportunities to develop creative methods to present training that is relevant to many audiences.
The Institute has experienced exponential growth and continues to build capacity by inviting talented Trainers to be a part of the training team. Associates and Affiliate Trainers bring personal and professional experiences that broaden the reach of the Institute to impact organizations and individuals to get better lives.
Laura Buckner, M.Ed., founding partner of the Institute for Person-Centered Practices, is a Licensed Professional Counselor and former special educator. Laura has invested the last 15 years in providing training on the local, state, and national levels. Laura is a Certified Mentor Trainer in Person Centered Practices through the Learning Community for Person Centered Practices. She has considerable experience facilitating Person-Centered Plans using the materials of the Learning Community, and in training plan facilitators. Laura believes her greatest expertise comes from her experience as a mother. Her adult son has been both impetus and inspiration to Laura's work to create inclusive communities, along with plans that enable people to live lives of choice successfully with the right supports, in those communities.
Aimee Ortiz-Day has been a certified Person Centered Thinking Trainer since 2017 and is also a Program Manager at the Center on Disability and Development at Texas A&M University (CDD.) Her programs support person centered practices, increase self-advocacy skills, and promote the inclusion of individuals with disabilities in their communities.
She is the mother of two young men who are adventurous, funny, kind and have a disabilities. Aimee credits Person Centered Thinking & Planning for the growth that she has seen in her son's ability to advocate for himself at school. He participates in his IEP meetings and shares his future goals with his team. This provides positive control over his education and the team works together to help him reach his vision of a good life.
